You can also try the following steps: 1. I will try the above steps when I get home. It is not the card, which ran fine in Windows 7 after the upgrade in place from Vista. This did not happen until I performed a full installation. I tried the above. It updated, but still no Digital Cable Advisor.
It still tells me to "Activate Digital Cable', then won't let me. I can't beleive that Microsoft makes it this hard to run a digital cable card properly on a PC. Two things I find odd:. When I did the previous upgrade in place from Vista to W7 on the other hard drive, I went to Extras in WMC and ran the cable advisor and it loaded what ever it loaded it does not tell you what it is installing , and then plugged in the cable card tuner, a pop up appeared informing me that a digital cable card was discovered and asked me if I wanted to set it up.
I of course selected "yes", and when WMC opened, it asked for a code, but the box where you would enter the code already had the code in it and it was grayed out. I selected next and continued on with the digital activation. I then set up my signal, called the cable company as the screen instructed me to do so, supplied them with the information they needed, They sent the card a signal, and I was watching all channels.
I never saw a screen where PlayReady was downloaded and installed. After replacing my hard drive and doing a fresh installation of Windows 7, when I plugged in the card this time, no pop up appeared asking me did I want to configure the newly found Cable card. The only thing that happened is the "found new hardware and installing drivers" box in the task bar came up. The drivers installed successfully, and that was it.
I then went into WMC and attempted to run the digital cable advisor as before, but it did not exist. I then proceeded to set up the TV signal, and that is when the PlayReady software installed. I hit next, and it told me that my PC was not digital cable ready I hit next again, and it went to a screen where PlayReady was updated via download I continued on with the signal setup, and when it was complete, I went to live TV and my channels were there.
It never instructed me to call the cable company and give them the cable card information again, even though it was a new hard drive and a fresh installation of Windows 7. Just to make sure that it wasn't because I didn't call the cable company Comcast , I called them and had then resend a signal to the card. Still no change. Any ideas? What finally worked for me was to 1 allow Media Extenders through the firewall, then 2 under the "Run as Administrator" command prompt:. After that, restart Windows Media Center.
Running that command before the firewall change did nothing. Office Office Exchange Server. Not an IT pro? Windows Client. DCA is not installed by default. You will need to be logged in the console session to install DCA.
Note: The attachment is only downloadable for logged on users. Do not copy or host the file elsewhere. Btw, You can also exportimport the corresponding registry keys but I prefer use a more supported model and have DCA installed.
You can record both and watch Copy-Freely on any system connected to your network; however, Copy-Once will not be viewable with the exception of a RemoteFx RDP session. Glad it is helpful. Thanks for this article Michael. I also have use an xbox as an extender for a different TV in the house. Separately, I have a server in the basement running Hyper-V with a windows home server VM on it. Now conversely, the experience using an xbox extender is actually quite good. Can I ask why? Thanks in advance, eagerly awaiting your responses!
For the InfiniTV to work through Hyper-V you will need to install the drivers on your Windows R2 and from there you have a couple choices:.
Cons: You are dependent on the quality of your physical network bridge—not all network cards are equal and sadly a lot of them do not implement packet filtering properly which is required for network bridging. Pros: Virtual network card drivers work perfect with bridging. No extra overhead on the physical network card. Cons: A few settings are needed on the virtual network card and the InfiniTV i. Static IP. I think I have the settings mentioned on a thread here on Missing Remote.
Hi, I got everything working except channels like HBO do not work and say they are copy protected. Thanks Michael, I appreciate your answers to my questions above. Do you have any other blog posts that describe your setup more?
If not, can I ask you why you went the route you did? Thanks again,. First DCA failed my video card. It then took me 9 calls to my service provider over the course of a week to get my cablecard properly activated 9 different techs all clueless until I requested a specific code, an RF or refresh — unbelievable. My extended basic channels are all copyonce. So, now I think I need to upgrade my video card to overcome this issue. What is the lowest-cost PCI video card that will work?
I installed my new Radeon HD It installed with no errors and the driver is only a couple months old, but when I try to view a TV channel I still get the message that my display adapter may not be HDCP ready. I tried to re-run Digital Cable Advisor Tool and I get the message that my system is already configured to run digital cable.
Thank you so much. I had my Infinitv 4 usb running fine on my laptop but that meant my laptop had to stay home to record shows. So I tried moving it to a desktop that met every Ceton min. I can fix the memory shortage but without your workaround I would be spending several hundred dollars for a new PC. My cablecard tuner works! The alternative would be to buy a newer monitor, which I do not want to do at this time.
I find that Comcast had turned on HD channels for my cablecard tuner. I get perfect pictures with the HD channels, but each recording takes about 3 times more space as before. I am happy to be able to schedule recordings on any channel again like I did before HD is always clear, but the old SD channels that have HD counterparts are not as clear as they are on my old analog TVs using digital adapters from the cable company.
But, the SD channels that do not have HD counterparts are clear. This could be an intentional act by Comcast to push people toward HD if their hardware supports it, and their tactic has worked with me.
I just had to buy a bigger hard drive. I am asking this website to please provide a way to undo the override. When I attempt to watch tv from one of my xbox extenders all i get is a blank screen. I would really like to find a solution to the problem. I have not been able to determine why HDCP fails. I have a MacBook air with windows 7 ultimate 64 running virtualized under parallels 7. I want to use windows medito enter to record from an HDHomerun Prime 3 turner with cable card.
If worked out the network kinks so windows can see it properly. I downloaded and ran DCA override successfully. I now pass the first two!
I fail your video card or driver does not support content protection. I used to be able to see HD channels along with analog channels below channel I had to use the the DCA bypass to allow digital cable. Now I cannot get any HD on normal channels. Also, it is asking me for a IR remote. If it does not see it, it stops the setup. I have an IR remote, but MC does not see it. I have a zbox with an Intel GMA I forget this every time I have to resetup the DVR…. Mike says:.
