Barbara vernieri update

Swartz estimated Vernieri suffered a minimum of four to five blows to her head, but the damage to her brain indicted she had been hit more than that. Vernieri also suffered third- and fourth-degree burns and a fracture to her tibia that was caused while she was still alive.

During her testimony, Swartz said tibia fractures are typically something she only sees in car accidents. In addition to the burns and fracture, Verneri suffered thermal burns, a cut to the back of her head, several instances of blunt force trauma to her face, eyes and ears, and black soot in her nose.

Vernieri was hit so hard that the cartilage in her ear split, Grootenboer said during closing arguments. Wood-Ridge man found guilty in woman's murder Daniel Rochat of Wood-Ridge was convicted of killing Barbara Vernieri in her East Rutherford home and setting her on fire.
